Welcome to the Compton Junior Equestrians!
The Compton Cowboys present the Compton Junior Equestrians (CJE), the Premier Equestrian Program in Compton, where we believe in the transformative power of horses. Our mission is to provide disadvantaged urban youth with self-development services by leveraging opportunities for engagement with horses and other ranch based and farming programming, with a focus on empowering our students to overcome challenges, develop essential life skills, and build a strong sense of self.
Discover the Magic of CJE’s Equine Programs
Students and Participants Experience personal growth and development through our transformative programming. Through working with and forming relationships (bonds) with our horses and mentors, our youth develop riding skills, build confidence and wellness, enrich educational achievement, and expand their vision of a future full of opportunities beyond those available and envisioned in their local communities.

Frequently Asked Questions
What ages do your programs serve?
Our programs welcome youth ages 8-18. We offer structured afterschool sessions and summer camps designed to be age-appropriate and engaging for all participants.
How does my donation directly impact the program?
Your donation helps provide essential care for our horses, maintain our facilities, and ensure our programs remain accessible to all children in our community. We use funds to cover costs of equipment, feed, facility maintenance, and program materials to keep our services available to urban youth.
Do you need to have prior experience with horses to join?
No prior experience is necessary! Our programs are designed for beginners and teach all the fundamentals of horsemanship. We provide all necessary equipment and start with basic safety and handling skills.
What does a typical program session include?
Our sessions combine hands-on horsemanship training, homework support, organic gardening activities, and self-development workshops. Students learn everything from basic horse care and riding skills to leadership and responsibility.
Are your programs available year-round?
Yes! We offer year-round programming including Fall, Winter, and Spring afterschool sessions, as well as Summer Camp. We also provide field trip opportunities for schools and organizations throughout the year.
