CJE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MESSAGE CORNER

CJE Executive Message

On behalf of the Compton Junior Equestrians Board of Directors, and in our role as the official community service affiliate of the Compton Cowboys, we are very excited to release our updated Quarterly Newsletter, providing a briefing on recent important developments, activities and announcements, as well as to provide important updates to your support opportunities for joining us in delivering on our community service mission.

You will learn in this newsletter edition that we’ve dramatically expanded our student programming to support our urban youth year-round. We encourage you to revisit our website to see that it's been completely revamped to provide much improved communications and broad new support and donor option functionalities, including the introduction of a new raffle concept. We also have news from our staffing corner, updates on our coming events and activities, as well as colorful illustrations of our exciting activities since the last newsletter.

As a normal course of business, its always our honor to acknowledge the many and significant contributors to our programs, some for over 30 years of riding with the Compton Junior Posse back in the day, and for joining the support effort needed to continue our disadvantaged youth equestrians programming through the Compton Cowboys and Compton Junior Equestrians since 2018. We offer a sincere thank you for your support of our community service mission, captured by the integration of our CJE motto, “Keeping kids ON horses and OFF the streets”, and the CC motto, “Streets raised us. Horses saved us.”

Please enjoy this edition of the newsletter and stay tuned for communications regarding opportunities to support our events. You should feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] to learn the many options available for contributing to our success, or to offer your heartfelt comments.

Compton Cowboys Executive Message

We must always start our communications with our supporters by sending the most powerful thank you we can muster for all the sponsors of our community service mission, which is executed and delivered through the Compton Jr Equestrians, our non-profit affiliate... THANK YOU!!!

We are excited to report in this edition of the CJE newsletter our many historic CJE developments, but we also highlight key Compton Cowboys (CC) developments as well, including merchandise expansion and our music releases introducing Randy Savvy under our new Street Country Genre. We must note that all our CC brand building efforts contribute towards the support our community service mission to provide equestrian services to youth in disadvantaged and underrepresented urban communities. Its also important to explain that CC brand successes serve as the foundation of our long-term goals for expanding CJE urban youth support beyond Compton to include services for other regions, from across California, to the nation and the world.

We invite you to continue your support for our community service mission through both direct CJE donations and sponsorships and through the purchase of CC merchandise, joining our Street Country fans, and by engaging our Cowboys for appearances, entertainment, and music.

Thank you to our long term and our new sponsors and supporters for your decision to ride with us!!!

CJE PROGRAMMING CORNER

We are extremely proud to report that the CJE Basic Equine Programming has been expanded formally to involve year-round student programs throughout the year. We have now scheduled four student sessions, which include Fall (9/9-11/20, 2024, Winter (1/6-3/5, 2025) and Spring (3/17-5/21, 2025) Afterschool Sessions, along with our Summer Camp Session (6/17-8/7, 2025). We also offer year round Field Trip opportunities for organizations such as schools and churches, with a goal of providing an introduction to our student programming options.

In support of offering year-round programming, we took on the task of making sure our programs were effectively planned, standardized, documented, staffed and budgeted. That effort involved formalizing program offerings to include documented lesson plans, student intake and testing protocols, a case management process for tracking student progress through four parallel learning tracks. Learning activities are grouped into 4 tracks which are designed to ensure we deliver on our mission to service disadvantaged urban youth self-development needs. Our Tracks include Horsemanship, Equine Science, Organic Gardening and Self-development & Wellness learning groups. The Afterschool Programming involves a focus on school support by maintaining a standard homework period for all students to start each class day, while the Horsemanship track takes the lead for our program focus during the Summer Camp Program. The Tracks for Gardening and Self-Development & Wellness activities are conducted throughout all sessions, with the case management responsibility for tracking and ensuring student progress being coordinated through the Self-Development Track. The overall focus of our efforts is ensure all students’ status and progress are understood and that each student is receiving any identified assistance need support that we can provide.

You can follow the links below to the After School Program and/or the Summer Camp Program Descriptions to see how our Basic Equine Programs leverages our Compton Cowboys, program staff, horses and ranch to support youth self-development and growth.

The Field Trip link will allow exploration of how we provide interested groups exposure to CJE programming.

Through exploring all our available student programming, you will see how the CJE has been able to demonstrate over many years the successful development of fully confident and productive program graduates.

CJE ENGAGEMENT CORNER

We are quite excited to announce the rollout of our new website. We encourage you to visit our new online presence to see that our website has been completely revamped. The project included the use of simple layout techniques to help make the site more easily understood and more easily navigated. These site revision efforts are proving to help visitors better explore our organization and expedite successful searches for sought after information (www.comptonjrequestrians.com).

A key element of the new website is reflected in how we have simplified and broadened donor and support options for providing financial giving to the CJE. Donors and supporters can now choose among separate selections to support our students, our horses, or our ranch, and with the option to do so either financially or by direct provision of physical items.

A critical newly simplified capability of the new website involves clear options for setting up automatic monthly donations. In fact, we are so excited about supporting this option, we have established and are promoting a new raffle concept. We will be giving away $200 of Compton Cowboy gear to a raffle winner, where there is one raffle entry for every person signing up for a $1 per month donation for one year (12 months of one dollar donations per month).

CJE STAFFING CORNER

Mark Carlos

We are thrilled to welcome Mark Carlos as our new Student Programs Coordinator! As an esteemed alumnus of the Compton Jr. Posse, our founding organization, Mark’s journey is a testament to the power of our programming to support and contribute to student dedication and perseverance. He has shown incredible commitment and focus by completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Cal State Long Beach, where he is now pursuing a Master’s Degree in Social Work focusing on early childhood development. Mark’s passion for giving back and his deep understanding of our community make him an invaluable team member and role model for Compton Jr. Equestrians students. We are excited to see the positive impact he has already had since he joined our efforts to help guide and inspire the next generation!

Ellary Allis

Ellary Allis has joined us as one of our key volunteers this year, bringing her expertise as a photographer and video editor born and raised in Los Angeles. Ellary's passion for the Compton Cowboys' community development mission through the CJE stems from her childhood experiences learning horsemanship at a working ranch camp near Bakersfield. There, she witnessed firsthand the profound impact these skills can have on young people's lives. Ellary's connection to CC blossomed through a shared love of horses and dirt bikes, two passions that resonate deeply with the organization's ethos. Her background in visual storytelling and personal connection to equestrian life make her an invaluable asset to our team. We are thrilled to announce that Ellary has taken on the role of official photographer for the CJE, where she will capture the moments and growth of our young riders.
