CJE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MESSAGE CORNER

CJE Executive Message

On behalf of the Compton Junior Equestrians Board of Directors, and in our role as the official community service affiliate of the Compton Cowboys, we are very excited to release our first Quarterly Newsletter of 2025. We are committed to thanking our supporters by keeping you informed of how your investments in us are helping our youth and our community service mission of “Keeping kids ON horses and OFF the streets”. Further, this newsletter addition illustrates how we continue to expand our student programming into support for our students year-round. We’ve also continued to revamp our website to present streamlined donor option functionality. We are pleased to announce the return of our original Compton Cowboy/Cowgirl, and that we’ve elevated a Jr Staff member to regular staff status, in recognition of her continued growth from her CJE student days. We hope you enjoy our normal updates on upcoming events and activities, as well as the colorful illustrations of our exciting activities since the last newsletter.

Again, we know you will enjoy this edition of the newsletter. As always, you should feel free to reach out to us Here.

The CJE Management Team

Compton Cowboys Executive Message

As always, we start our communications with a sincere thank you to our partners, volunteers and supporters, who have joined us in our overarching goal of supporting the Compton Jr Equestrians, our non-profit organization that provides our community service mission to urban youth in the greater Los Angeles area and beyond.

Of note this quarter was the LA fires that directly impacted all of us in SOCAL, and especially our 4 legged friends at barns across the burn areas and beyond. Randy and Keenan from Compton Cowboys heard the call and for 4 days, relocated horses from Pacific Palisades, Malibu and surrounding areas to as far as Hansen Dam which is 25 miles away. Notwithstanding the accolades, as part of the equestrian community, this is not only our privilege it is our duty, and we will always be available when our equestrian family calls!

Please enjoy the highlights of Compton Cowboys activities this past quarter (below) including our partnership with Forever 21 that was an amazing success, selling out very shortly after its launch! This was especially important as Forever 21 sponsored a “Round Up" program that allowed you and other customers a way to donate directly to our Compton Junior Equestrians, so our thanks to all of you that supported the mission through your purchases!

COMPTON COWBOYS PROGRAMMING CORNER

This year's fires in Southern California challenged all of us in the LA region in many ways. Led by Randy Savvy, the Compton Cowboys stepped up to help save horses and fire victims. Beyond our emergency activities our organization is designed to support the youth of our communities. Please help us deliver on our mission by supporting the CJE directly, through ordering our merchandise, listening to our music, and attending our events.

Compton Cowboys- LA Fires Interview

Moving into the 2nd quarter of 2025, we have expanded our horse Rescue, Rehab, and Rehome r both the Cowboys and the Cowboys own Randy Savvy, who will be both performing and hosting Bill Picket Rodeo’s new entertainment platform Soul Country Music Star here.

The Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo (BPIR), celebrating its 41st Anniversary, has been a longstanding platform for showcasing Black Country Music Artists during rodeo events across the United States. With the rise of the Black Country Music Artists, partnering with them is crucial. The Soul Country Music™ Star competition aims to provide talented Black Country Artists a national platform to break into the country music scene, diversifying the industry, and to discover the next Soul Country Music™ Star. This nationwide event will host some of the most promising country artists followed by (2) Days of the celebrated Bill Picket Rodeo here, in locations including: Memphis, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Atlanta and DC/Maryland. The Winner of the National The Soul Country Music™ Star finals wins $10,000 and a chance to travel with the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo tour in 2026!

We are greatful for Margo LaDrew and her entire team for this opportunity of platform partnership with this esteemed and true representation of the American Cowboy and its Legacy!

Combined with our continued partnership with 1/ST-Santa Anita Race Park, and the addition of the Bill Picket Rodeo, and Forever 21, 2025 is set to be an extrordinary year!

RESCUE, REHAB, & REHOME

Among some of the updates, we are especially proud to announce the initiation of what we are calling RRR. This is Compton Cowboys official program designed to RESCUE REHAB and REHOME horses and other farm animals that have found themselves in a difficult way. As with all equine communities, there is always the reality that some horses do not necessarily live in ideal circumstances. This includes horses and other farm animals in our direct community that have aged, become ill, and end up at the mercy of owners making decisions negatively impacting their livelihood. This is a sad and unfortunate reality that we take personally here at COMPTON COWBOYS.

So in cooperation with the CJE program (who will participate in the day to day care of these animals), we will be RESCUING up to (4) animals for a period of 90 days each, in an effort to revitalize these animals who are in poor condition, and bring them back to overall wellness, with the ultimate goal of transitioning them to healthy and stable homes.

As you can imagine, this program comes at a considerable expense, so your donations are greatly appreciated, and we have provided a link here so please help support our ride. Donate Here!

Get Out the Vote

On Sunday, October 13th, the Compton Cowboys used their monthly Cowboy Sunday’s ranch event to host a Voter Registration Drive. It was a family friendly event that aimed to register folks to vote while providing music, vibes, food, and, of course, cowboys and horses. Special guest speakers included Compton Mayor Emma Sharif, Chair of the LA Democratic Party Mark Ramos, actor James Pickens Jr, actresses Ashley Jackson and Malynda Hale, and Compton Cowboys founder Randy Savvy.

The CJE celebrated Halloween with students and staff members alike coming to the ranch in costume for the annual CJE Halloween Parade. We danced and ate candy and paraded around the ranch saying hi to all the animals and our friends.

Comptonmania

November was a busy month for the CJE! On November 9th, Comptonmania came to the ranch to treat the CJE and friends to a wrestling and comedy show. Kansas Carradine Workshop

On November 18th and 19th, horsemanship expert Kansas Carradine visited the CJE at the Compton Cowboys ranch to work with our young riders. Kansas is a world-class performance horsewoman. As a leader in holistic horsemanship, Kansas helps riders become more self-aware, confident, and present through teaching SkyHorse somatic awareness and HeartMath techniques. We loved having Kansas visit the ranch to share her expertise with us.

Santa Anita Park hosted the Lugano Diamonds Split Rock Jumping Tour from November 20th-24th, with Compton Cowboys and CJE as special guests at the event. CJE graduate and nationally accomplished equestrian Zoie Brogdon, who learned how to ride in our program, competed with her horse (?). The star studded opening ceremony featured Zoie and the Compton Cowboys riding into the arena and telling the crowd about the CJE! The event was a blast, and we are excited about our continued sponsor partnership with Santa Anita Park.

Compton Christmas Parade

On December 14th, the Compton Cowboys were Grand Marshals for the City of Compton’s 69th annual Christmas Parade The historic event drew thousands of community members, who gathered along the parade route to celebrate the holiday spirit.
